SOUL FIRE RISING is Kelly’s first venture into the world of producing. Why SFR? After playing "Evil Samara" in THE RING movies, opposite Naomi Watts, Kelly got to experience first hand how loyal and supportive fans of horror/sci-fi are, so she thought this was the perfect project to get involved in... Well, that, and she is married to writer/executive producer Kurt Patino.

Liz Mendoza Liz Mendoza - Make up
I am from Orange County, CA and I have always been into painting and sculpting, and have had a love for Horror Movies since I was a kid. It wasn't until I saw an ad for a Makeup School that I decided to combine my two loves together.

I went to Empire Academy of Makeup and Cinema Makeup School. I first took just a small course in Makeup effects to see if this is what I really wanted to do. When I decided that this is what I wanted to do as a career I furthered my education and went to Cinema Makeup School and took the Master Makeup program so I could learn all aspects of the makeup industry. I worked on a few independent horror films right out of school. My first Creature film was called “Bled” with my dear friend Gage Munster who was Dept. head and I was Key. We made our first creature suit and did all the effects for the film. I learned a lot about fabrication and using prosthetics on set from this film.

I have worked on nearly 30 films doing everything from Beauty to Makeup Effects. I am very proud of a Foster Farms commercial I did with my Agency Macgowan Spencer. Most of my favorite creature/ prosthetic work has been for SFR. Ultimately some of my favorite films I have worked on haven't always been because of the work I did on the film but the people I had the chance to meet and work with.

Gore and Horror has always fascinated me, more than scared me. Some of my biggest influences were Fantasy and Horror movies growing up as a kid. When I was 7 the “Exorcist” was my favorite movie, next to “Poltergeist” and “Pumpkinhead.” “Return of the Living Dead” movies and “The Nightmare on Elm Street” movies were very influential in my life because they came out when I was an early teen. I realized as I got older I knew a lot about movies with effects and had a list of favorite creatures and characters. It wasn't until I started looking into Makeup as a field that there was a world of people like me. I have a tattoo of "Julie" from “Return of the Living Dead 3.” I showed it to Bill Corso and Steve Johnson, the creators of this fantastic makeup, and they both thought my tattoo was awesome! This was a definite highlight for me so far in my career.

I really love doing SFR because every episode I have done I have been able to create a lot of my own fx. I have sculpted and fabricated most of the pieces myself and was given a lot of creative freedom with the looks of the Demons. For this, SFR has been something I am very proud of. Many thanks to Rob Burman for Rubber Wear Appliances, Dale Fabrigar and Kurt Patino for helping me achieve the look of the demons.
